In a significant move, the Adani family has injected an additional ₹8,339 crore into Ambuja Cements Ltd through warrants, bringing their total investment in the company to ₹20,000 crore. This capital infusion has propelled the family’s stake in Ambuja Cements by an additional 3.6%, now standing at 70.3%.
Shares of Ambuja Cements saw a positive response, closing at ₹617 on Tuesday (April 16), marking a gain of ₹10.20 or 1.68% on the BSE. The cement maker, a part of the Adani Group, confirmed the full subscription to the company’s warrants program by the Adani family.
Previously, in October 2022, the Adani family had invested ₹5,000 crore in the company, followed by an infusion of ₹6,661 crore in March 2024, designated for share issuance. This latest injection of capital underscores the Adani family’s commitment to Ambuja Cements’ growth trajectory and strategic expansion plans.
With the additional funding, Ambuja Cements aims to boost its cement production capacity to 140 million tonnes per annum by 2028. The capital infusion will also facilitate various strategic initiatives, including debottlenecking capex to enhance operational efficiency and optimizing resources and supply chain.
Ajay Kapur, Wholetime Director and CEO of Ambuja Cements Ltd, expressed enthusiasm about the completion of the Adani family’s primary infusion, highlighting the enhanced capital flexibility and balance sheet strength it provides for accelerated growth and capital management initiatives.
Barclays Bank PLC, MUFG Bank, Mizuho Bank, and Standard Chartered Bank played pivotal roles as advisors for the transaction, reflecting the complexity and significance of the investment. Following this development, shares of Ambuja Cements closed at ₹617, representing a gain of ₹10.20 or 1.68% on the BSE.
