“Bombay HC Seeks Status Report on Custodial Death Probe in Salman Khan Residence Firing Case”

In a significant development, the Bombay High Court has intervened in the investigation into the alleged suicide of an accused in police custody related to the firing incident outside actor Salman Khan’s residence. The court, on Wednesday, directed authorities to furnish a status report on the ongoing inquiry into the custodial death.

A vacation bench comprising Justices Sandeep Marne and Neela Gokhale issued the directive while hearing a petition filed by Rita Devi, the mother of the deceased accused, Anuj Thapan. Thapan tragically passed away on May 1 inside the toilet of the Mumbai Police Crime Branch’s lock-up.

In response to the petition, the court has requested a detailed status report on the inquiry, seeking transparency and accountability in the investigation process. Additionally, the bench directed for the preservation of crucial evidence, including CCTV footage from the police station and the call data records of the officers involved.

The incident has raised concerns regarding custodial deaths and the need for stringent oversight to prevent such tragedies. The court’s intervention underscores the importance of upholding the rule of law and ensuring that justice is served impartially.

As the inquiry progresses, stakeholders await further updates from the Bombay High Court, expecting a thorough and impartial investigation into the circumstances surrounding the custodial death. The outcome of this case will likely have implications for police procedures and accountability measures in similar incidents in the future.
