CBI Alleges BRS Leader K Kavitha Pressured Sharath Reddy to Pay ₹25 Crore to AAP: Court Sentences Her to CBI Custody

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has made startling allegations against BRS leader K Kavitha, implicating her in a case related to the Delhi excise policy. According to the CBI’s submission to a special court, Kavitha allegedly coerced Aurobindo Pharma’s promoter, Sharath Chandra Reddy, into paying ₹25 crore to the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in exchange for five retail zones in Delhi. The court has subsequently granted custody of K Kavitha to the CBI until April 15.

In its arguments before special judge Kaveri Baweja, the CBI asserted that Kavitha threatened to harm Sharath Reddy’s business if he did not comply with the demand for alleged kickbacks to the AAP. Reddy, who is also a co-accused in the liquor policy case being investigated by the Enforcement Directorate, has reportedly become an approver in the case.

The CBI further alleged that Kavitha’s associates, Arun R Pillai, Abhishek Boinpally, and Butchibabu Gorantla, were involved in inserting provisions into the now-scrapped policy that favored them. The agency claimed that Kavitha’s NGO, Telangana Jagruthi, received ₹80 lakh from Reddy’s company, Aurobindo Reality & Infrastructure Pvt. Ltd, as assurance of support.

Moreover, Kavitha purportedly compelled Reddy to enter into a sale agreement for agricultural land in Telangana and demanded ₹14 crore from him. When Reddy hesitated to comply with her demands, the CBI alleged that Kavitha threatened to harm his businesses in Telangana and Delhi under the Excise Policy.

Kavitha is accused of being part of the South Group, which allegedly paid kickbacks of ₹100 crore to AAP for licenses under the liquor policy. These developments come amidst political turmoil, with AAP accusing Reddy’s firm of channeling funds to the BJP through electoral bonds.

In response to the arrests and allegations, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia have faced legal repercussions. AAP contends that these actions are part of the BJP’s political vendetta and asserts that no money trail has been established.

Defense Minister Rajnath Singh recently dismissed opposition claims of agency misuse, questioning why relief was not provided by the courts in Kejriwal’s case.

As the investigation unfolds, the implications of these allegations and legal proceedings on the political landscape remain uncertain, with both sides vehemently defending their positions.
