CCI Approves Greenko Energies’ Acquisition of Additional Shares in Sikkim Urja Limited

The Competition Commission of India (CCI) has granted approval for the acquisition of additional shares in Sikkim Urja Limited (formerly Teesta Urja Limited) by Greenko Energies Private Limited. This approval marks a significant development in the power generation sector in India.

Greenko Energies Private Limited, a limited liability company incorporated in India, is an indirectly wholly-owned subsidiary of Greenko Mauritius. Greenko Mauritius, in turn, is wholly-owned by Greenko Energy Holdings (GEH), a Mauritius-incorporated investment holding company. GEH oversees a portfolio of companies engaged in power generation across India.

Sikkim Urja Limited is a special purpose vehicle (SPV) established for implementing a substantial 1200 Mega Watt (MW) hydro power project in North Sikkim, India. The project comprises six units, each with a capacity of 200 MW.

The CCI’s approval enables Greenko Energies to increase its stake in Sikkim Urja, further consolidating its position in the renewable energy sector. This move aligns with Greenko Group’s strategic goal of expanding its footprint in India’s hydro power generation landscape.
