Chief Justice of India D Y Chandrachud unveiled a new ‘accessibility help desk’ and ‘media enclosure’ within the premises of the Supreme Court on Thursday.
The accessibility help desk, situated near the e-Sewa Kendra, aims to facilitate individuals with special needs, including the differently-abled, senior citizens, pregnant women, and those requiring special assistance. This initiative is a part of the court’s ongoing efforts to enhance accessibility, following recommendations outlined in a report submitted by the committee chaired by Justice Ravindra Bhat.
In his remarks, the Chief Justice highlighted the significance of the help desk, describing it as a “one-stop facility” for individuals seeking assistance within the Supreme Court complex. He emphasized the court’s commitment to ensuring inclusivity and accessibility for all members of society.
Additionally, the inauguration included the unveiling of a media enclosure located adjacent to the apex court’s lawns. This enclosure is expected to provide improved facilities for media personnel covering proceedings and events at the Supreme Court.
The initiatives reflect the Supreme Court’s dedication to fostering a more accessible and accommodating environment, aligning with its mission to serve the diverse needs of the public and the media alike.
