Jai Anant Dehadrai, a Supreme Court lawyer and former partner of Trinamool Congress leader Mahua Moitra, has lodged a defamation case against her in the Delhi High Court. The lawsuit, seeking damages of Rs 2 crore, alleges that Moitra made abusive and defamatory statements against Dehadrai regarding the cash-for-query row, branding him as “jobless” and “jilted” on various media platforms and social media channels.
Dehadrai’s suit further requests a permanent injunction to remove the defamatory content from social media platforms. This legal action follows Moitra’s unsuccessful attempt to prevent Dehadrai and BJP MP Nishikant Dubey from disseminating “fake and defamatory” content against her in the same case, as ruled by the Delhi High Court on March 4. The court found Moitra’s complaint lacked full disclosure.
Moitra’s expulsion as a Lok Sabha MP in December 2023 by an Ethics Committee, citing “unethical conduct,” prompted Dehadrai’s allegations. He claims Moitra admitted to providing her Parliament login and password details to businessman Darshan Hiranandani but denied accepting any cash from him.
The defamation case underscores the intensifying legal battle between Moitra and her estranged partner, shedding light on the contentious issues surrounding the cash-for-query scandal and its repercussions.
