Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal was granted permission to meet his wife, Sunita Kejriwal, and AAP Minister Atishi in Tihar jail on Monday, according to the Aam Aadmi Party. This meeting comes amid ongoing concerns about Kejriwal’s well-being during his detention.
During the visit, Atishi informed reporters that Kejriwal inquired about the availability of books for schoolchildren and the supply of medicines to mohalla clinics, indicating his concern for key public welfare initiatives despite his incarceration.
Tomorrow, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann is scheduled to visit Kejriwal in jail.
Earlier reports had suggested that while Atishi was granted permission for the meeting, Sunita Kejriwal was initially denied access. However, the AAP clarified that both names were submitted for a meeting scheduled for April 29, and only one was allowed, sparking criticism of the jail authorities.
Sunita Kejriwal, meanwhile, has taken an active role in political campaigning in her husband’s absence. During a recent roadshow, she appealed to the public to support AAP candidate Mahabal Mishra from West Delhi constituency, criticizing the prolonged detention of her husband without any formal charges.
Calling Kejriwal the “true son of Mother India,” Sunita Kejriwal urged citizens to safeguard democracy and resist authoritarian tendencies. She raised concerns about Kejriwal’s health, highlighting his long-standing diabetes and the discontinuation of insulin treatment while in jail.
In solidarity with Kejriwal, the AAP organized a ‘Walk for Kejriwal’ walkathon under the ‘Jail Ka Jawab Vote Se’ campaign, demonstrating widespread support for the detained leader and demanding his release.
As the legal battle continues, Kejriwal’s detention has become a focal point of political discourse, drawing attention to issues of democratic rights and due process. Amidst growing calls for his release, the visits from his wife and colleagues serve as reminders of the ongoing struggle for justice and accountability,
