The Delhi Rouse Avenue Court has dismissed the interim bail plea filed by Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) leader K Kavitha in connection with the money laundering case linked to the now-defunct Delhi excise policy.
K Kavitha’s regular bail application is currently pending before the court, with arguments scheduled for April 20.
Arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) from her residence in Banjara Hills, Hyderabad, on March 15, Kavitha stands accused of being a significant figure in the “South Group,” alleged to have paid kickbacks of ₹100 crore to the ruling Aam Aadmi Party in Delhi in exchange for a substantial portion of liquor licenses in the national capital. Following her arrest, she was remanded to judicial custody for 14 days.
The court’s decision to deny interim bail comes on the heels of Kavitha’s plea to recall the order permitting the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to interrogate her in Tihar jail. Expressing concern over the CBI’s alleged lack of transparency in seeking permission to question her, Kavitha’s counsel argued that due process had been subverted.
While the court did not revoke its previous order, it refrained from granting interim relief to K Kavitha, scheduling further hearings for April 10 to address her plea. Despite the court’s decision, Kavitha’s counsel emphasized the importance of judicial discipline, urging the probe agency to refrain from executing the order while her plea remains under consideration.
The development underscores the ongoing legal battle surrounding K Kavitha’s involvement in the excise policy case, highlighting the complexities and intricacies of the judicial process in addressing allegations of corruption and money laundering.
