Delhi Court Refuses Extension of Interim Bail for Supertech Chief R K Arora in Money-Laundering Case

A Delhi Court has declined to extend the interim bail granted to R K Arora, the chairman and promoter of Supertech, who is facing allegations in a money-laundering case. Arrested last June, Arora had been on interim bail since January 16. However, the court’s recent decision signifies a shift in his legal circumstances.

In an order issued by Additional Sessions Judge Devender Kumar Jangala, the court directed Arora to surrender before jail authorities by 5 pm on May 13. Despite Arora’s plea for a 90-day extension of interim bail citing medical grounds, the court determined that such an extension was unwarranted, particularly as the date for his alleged surgery had not been finalized.

Judge Devender Kumar Jangala emphasized the need for Arora to receive necessary medical treatment while in custody, directing the jail authorities to provide him with the prescribed medication. The court’s decision was informed by a medical board’s report, as well as the absence of a fixed date for Arora’s purported surgery.

Arora’s legal woes stem from allegations of financial misconduct related to Supertech, with multiple FIRs registered against him and the company by authorities in Delhi, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh. The Economic Offences Wing of the Delhi Police, along with its counterparts, has accused Supertech and Arora of cheating hundreds of homebuyers of significant sums.

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has furthered the investigation, probing alleged money laundering activities by the accused. It is alleged that funds collected by Supertech were diverted to other group companies for property purchases, resulting in illicit gains.

The refusal to extend Arora’s interim bail underscores the seriousness of the allegations against him and the ongoing legal scrutiny surrounding Supertech’s financial practices. As the case progresses, stakeholders will closely monitor developments, seeking accountability and justice in matters of financial impropriety.
