A Congress member arrested for allegedly uploading and circulating a fake video of Union Home Minister Amit Shah has been sent to one day judicial custody by a Delhi Court. Arun Reddy, who manages the ‘Spirit of Congress’ account on ‘X’, was produced before Magistrate Neha Garg by the Delhi Police’s special cell, which sought 14-day judicial custody for the accused.
The police informed the court that further interrogation of the accused was not required at this time. Despite the police’s request for a 14-day custody, the judicial magistrate decided to send the accused to one day judicial custody. The court directed the jail authorities to produce Reddy before the judge regularly hearing the case on the following day.
Additionally, during the proceedings, Reddy moved a bail application, prompting the judge to issue notice to the Delhi Police and schedule the hearing for May 7.
Reddy’s arrest came after the Delhi Police’s special cell registered an FIR based on a complaint from the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C), functioning under the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA). The complaint highlighted a doctored video of Amit Shah where his statements about the reservation system were altered, leading to false implications regarding his stance on quota for Muslims in Telangana.
The case underscores the ongoing challenges posed by misinformation and the legal repercussions for those involved in spreading fake news and manipulated media content.
