Delhi Government Assures High Court of Action to Rescue Trafficked Minors Forced into Bonded Labour

Key Words: Delhi High Court, Trafficked Minors, Bonded Labour, Rescue Operation, PIL

On Thursday, the Delhi Government assured the Delhi High Court that it will take decisive action to rescue minors who have been trafficked from various parts of the country and forced into bonded labour within the city. This assurance was given during the hearing of a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) seeking urgent intervention to save over 1,000 trafficked minors.

A bench comprising Acting Chief Justice Manmohan and Justice Tushar Rao Gedela emphasized the gravity and urgency of the issue, directing the Delhi Government counsel to file a detailed status report on the actions taken so far.

The PIL highlighted the plight of numerous minors trafficked into Delhi and subjected to inhumane working conditions as bonded labourers. The petitioner urged the authorities to conduct raids and rescue operations to free these children from their oppressive circumstances.

During the hearing, the Delhi Government counsel confirmed that upon receiving actionable information, appropriate steps would be taken to rescue the affected minors. The bench, acknowledging the critical nature of the issue, underscored that the protection and welfare of trafficked children must be treated as an absolute priority.

The high court’s directive for a status report aims to ensure accountability and prompt action by the authorities in addressing the severe problem of child trafficking and bonded labour in Delhi.

This case reflects the ongoing challenge of child trafficking in India and highlights the role of judicial oversight in compelling government action to protect vulnerable populations. The Delhi High Court’s intervention is a significant step towards ensuring that trafficked minors are rescued and rehabilitated, emphasizing the need for vigilance and swift response to actionable information.
