Discover the Hidden Gem of Himachal Pradesh: Naggar

Nestled in the serene Kullu district of Himachal Pradesh, Naggar is a relatively lesser-known town that offers a peaceful retreat away from the bustling crowds of nearby Manali. Just over 20 kilometers from Manali, Naggar is a pristine haven that beautifully showcases Himachali culture and architecture.

Himachali Culture and Heritage

Tripura Sundari Temple: One of Naggar’s most significant landmarks is the 16th-century Tripura Sundari Temple. This temple, dedicated to the goddess Tripura Sundari, stands out with its gabled roof and wooden pagoda-style structure. Made from Deodar wood, the temple is an architectural marvel visible from afar, drawing visitors with its intricate design and serene ambiance.

Naggar Castle: A tourist favorite, Naggar Castle gained widespread attention after being featured in the song “Ye Ishq Hai” from the Bollywood movie Jab We Met, starring Kareena Kapoor Khan. Built in the traditional Kath Kuni style, the castle uses alternate layers of wood and stone masonry, creating a unique and sturdy structure. The castle now serves as a heritage hotel, offering guests a chance to stay in a piece of history while enjoying stunning views of the Kullu Valley.

Chachogi Village: A visit to Naggar is incomplete without exploring the quaint village of Chachogi. This village is a testament to typical Himachali architecture, with vibrant houses and temples constructed using alternating layers of wood and stone, bound without mortar. Walking through Chachogi, visitors can experience the traditional lifestyle and warm hospitality of the locals, making it a culturally enriching experience.

Why Visit Naggar?

Naggar’s charm lies in its ability to offer a tranquil escape amidst nature while providing a rich cultural experience. Unlike the more commercialized Manali, Naggar remains relatively untouched, allowing travelers to immerse themselves in the natural beauty and heritage of Himachal Pradesh. Whether you’re exploring the architectural wonders, visiting ancient temples, or simply enjoying the peaceful surroundings, Naggar promises a memorable and rejuvenating getaway.
