ED seeks arrest warrant against AAP MLA Amanatullah Khan in Delhi Waqf Board case

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has intensified its pursuit in the Delhi Waqf Board case, moving a Delhi court to issue a non-bailable arrest warrant against Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Amanatullah Khan. The case, rooted in alleged irregularities in appointments within the Delhi Waqf Board, has seen Khan and three others facing charges of money laundering.

Special Judge Rakesh Syal of the Rouse Avenue court has scheduled the matter for April 18, following the ED’s request for time to file supporting documents for its application. This development comes amidst a backdrop where Khan had previously been summoned by the ED, with allegations of non-compliance with the investigative authority’s directives.

The Delhi Waqf Board case traces its origins to a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) inquiry initiated in 2016. Khan, who chaired the board at the time, faced accusations of illicitly appointing individuals to the board, purportedly against non-existent vacancies, resulting in financial losses to the Delhi government and alleged personal gains.

The ED’s involvement in the case began after raids on properties connected to Khan, yielding what it claims to be incriminating evidence pointing to his involvement in money laundering activities. Despite Khan’s attempts to secure anticipatory bail through the Delhi High Court, his plea was dismissed, adding a layer of complexity to the legal proceedings.

As the ED seeks to bolster its case against Khan, the upcoming court hearings are poised to shed further light on the intricacies of the Delhi Waqf Board case and the alleged financial improprieties associated with it.
