The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has opposed the interim medical bail plea filed by Jet Airways founder Naresh Goyal in connection with a money laundering case. In response, the agency suggested that Goyal’s stay at a private hospital could be extended for a month.
Goyal had applied for interim bail on medical and humanitarian grounds, citing his own and his wife Anita Goyal’s battle with cancer.
During the hearing on Friday, a single bench of Justice N J Jamadar stated that the court would deliver its verdict on May 6.
The opposition from the ED adds another layer of complexity to Goyal’s legal battle. The founder of the now-defunct airline is facing allegations of money laundering, which has resulted in legal proceedings against him.
Goyal’s plea for interim bail underscores the severity of his health condition and the need for medical attention. However, the ED’s stance indicates its determination to pursue the case against him, raising questions about the possibility of his temporary release.
As the High Court prepares to make its decision, all eyes are on the outcome of the hearing scheduled for May 6. The verdict will not only impact Goyal’s immediate fate but also have broader implications for the ongoing legal proceedings related to the money laundering case.
In the meantime, Goyal and his legal team await the court’s decision, hopeful for a favorable outcome that would address his medical needs while navigating the complexities of the legal system.
