The Division Bench of the Gauhati High Court, led by Chief Justice Vijay Bishnoi and Justice Suman Shyam, has issued directives to the Assam Government to provide information within 10 days about the measures taken to address waterlogging in Guwahati.
The directives came in response to a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed concerning waterlogging in Guwahati during the monsoon season. The PIL highlighted the hardships faced by residents due to inadequate drainage systems or other factors contributing to waterlogging.
After considering the facts and circumstances of the case, the Court observed that the problem of waterlogging in Guwahati has not been properly addressed by the authorities for a long time.
As a result, the Court ordered the State Government to submit their response within the stipulated 10-day period, detailing the steps taken to deal with the issue of waterlogging in the city.
The Court has scheduled the matter for the next hearing after the expiry of the 10-day period.
