Gujarat NEET-UG Candidates Move Apex Court to Halt Cancellation of Exam Amid Controversy

Keywords: NEET-UG, Gujarat candidates, Apex Court, Centre, National Testing Agency, exam cancellation, malpractice probe

Over 50 successful NEET-UG candidates from Gujarat, including several top-ranked students, have approached the Supreme Court seeking to restrain the Centre and the National Testing Agency (NTA) from cancelling the recently contested NEET-UG exam. The candidates are requesting a thorough investigation into allegations of unfair practices, such as paper leaks and impersonation, that marred the exam conducted on May 5 this year.

Students’ Plea for Fair Investigation

The group of 56 students has filed a fresh plea with the Apex Court, demanding the Union Education Ministry to investigate and take stringent action against those involved in the malpractices. The candidates argue that instead of cancelling the exam, the authorities should identify and penalize the perpetrators to uphold the integrity of the NEET-UG examination process.

Scheduled Hearing by the Supreme Court

The plea comes just days before a Supreme Court bench, led by Chief Justice DY Chandrachud, is set to hear 26 petitions. These petitions seek various reliefs, including a re-test and a comprehensive probe into the examination’s conduct, which has been overshadowed by numerous allegations of cheating and malpractice.

Allegations of Unfair Practices

The NEET-UG exam, a crucial entrance test for medical aspirants, has faced severe criticism this year due to reports of paper leaks and impersonation. These allegations have raised questions about the exam’s credibility and fairness, prompting affected students to seek legal recourse to ensure that only genuine candidates benefit from the results.

Implications and Future Actions

The outcome of the Supreme Court hearing will be significant for the future of the NEET-UG exam and the affected candidates. A decision to uphold or cancel the exam will set a precedent for how examination bodies handle allegations of malpractice and protect the interests of sincere candidates.

Conclusion

As the legal battle unfolds, the focus remains on ensuring a fair resolution that addresses the concerns of genuine candidates without compromising the exam’s integrity. The Supreme Court’s intervention is crucial in determining the next steps and maintaining the trust of students in the examination system.
