In an exemplary effort to enhance access to justice and expedite legal resolutions, the Haryana State Legal Services Authority (HALSA) organized the 4th National Lok Adalat on December 14, 2024. Spanning all 22 districts and 34 sub-divisions of Haryana, the event showcased judicial efficiency and collaboration under the National Legal Services Authority (NALSA), headed by Hon’ble Executive Chairperson, Justice Bhushan Ramkrishna Gavai of the Supreme Court.

HALSA’s Patron-in-Chief, Hon’ble Chief Justice of the Punjab and Haryana High Court, Sh. Sheel Nagu, and Executive Chairman, Hon’ble Justice Arun Palli, spearheaded the initiative. Their leadership ensured the smooth functioning of this state-wide program, aimed at resolving both pending and pre-litigation cases through mutual settlements.

With 165 benches set up across the state, the Lok Adalat addressed a broad spectrum of disputes, including civil, matrimonial, motor accident claims, bank recoveries, cheque bounce cases, traffic challans, and compoundable criminal matters. Cases under the Permanent Lok Adalats (Public Utility Services) were also taken up, reflecting the inclusive scope of the initiative.

A staggering 4.25 lakh cases were referred to the Lok Adalat, and over 3.5 lakh cases were successfully resolved during pre-Lok Adalat sittings and the main session. These outcomes underscore HALSA’s dedication to reducing litigation backlogs and offering timely legal remedies to the citizens of Haryana.

Sh. Surya Partap Singh, District & Sessions Judge and Member Secretary of HALSA, praised the event’s success, highlighting the organization’s commitment to delivering efficient and equitable justice. The initiative also reaffirms HALSA’s focus on alternative dispute resolution (ADR) mechanisms, which prioritize dialogue and mutual understanding over prolonged litigation.

About HALSA
The Haryana State Legal Services Authority (HALSA) works to provide free and accessible legal assistance, particularly to marginalized communities. Under the aegis of NALSA, HALSA promotes legal awareness and facilitates alternative dispute resolution methods like Lok Adalats, empowering individuals to resolve their disputes amicably and efficiently.

The success of the 4th National Lok Adalat not only strengthens public trust in the justice delivery system but also sets a benchmark for other states to emulate. HALSA’s initiatives exemplify how ADR mechanisms can bridge the gap between the judiciary and the people, making justice more accessible and inclusive for all.
