On Wednesday, August 7, Hindustan Oil Exploration Company Ltd (HOEC) announced that operations at its Western Offshore Block B-80 field have been disrupted due to adverse weather conditions. The disruption has affected the company’s floating storage offshore (FSO) unit, which is moored using a single point mooring (SPM) system.
In a stock exchange filing, HOEC detailed that the FSO unit faced significant challenges, as weather conditions made it impossible to maintain its position for over 10 days. On Tuesday, August 6, the situation escalated when the hawser, a heavy cable crucial for mooring, parted.
As a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of the vessel, the SPM system, and the floating hose, the FSO was de-moored and anchored. HOEC has indicated that minimal losses are anticipated as a result of this disruption.
The company has assured stakeholders that once weather conditions stabilize, the FSO will be re-moored with a new hawser, and production at the Western Offshore Block B-80 will resume as normal.
