Over 7.7 Lakhs Cases Settled in 2nd National Lok Adalat 2024: NALSA’s Commitment to Accessible Justice

The National Legal Services Authority (NALSA) achieved a significant milestone with the successful organization of the 2nd National Lok Adalat of 2024 across various states and Union Territories. Held on May 11th, 2024, the Lok Adalat aimed to promote affordability, accessibility, and inclusivity in the justice system.

Under the guidance of Hon’ble Mr. Justice Sanjiv Khanna, Judge, Supreme Court of India, and Executive Chairman of NALSA, the Lok Adalat provided a platform for dispute resolution, emphasizing conciliation and amicable settlements. This initiative aligns with NALSA’s vision of fostering a legal system that prioritizes peaceful resolution of disputes.

The event witnessed the settlement of a remarkable 7,71,187 cases by 6:00 PM, comprising both pre-litigation and pending cases. These included a diverse range of matters such as criminal compoundable offences, traffic challans, revenue cases, bank recovery cases, motor accident claims, cheque dishonour cases, labour disputes, matrimonial disputes (excluding divorce cases), land acquisition cases, and intellectual property rights (IPR) or consumer matters, among others.

Of these settlements, 3,21,959 were pre-litigation cases, demonstrating the effectiveness of early intervention and alternative dispute resolution mechanisms. Additionally, 4,49,228 pending cases were resolved, reflecting the Lok Adalat’s role in alleviating the burden on traditional court systems.

The total settlement amount reached an approximate value of Rs. 2733.79 crores, underscoring the significant impact of the Lok Adalat in providing timely and cost-effective justice to litigants across the country.

This remarkable achievement reaffirms NALSA’s commitment to delivering comprehensive legal remedies that are equitable, just, and easily accessible to all sections of society. The success of the 2nd National Lok Adalat underscores the importance of collaborative efforts in advancing the cause of justice and resolving disputes in a timely and efficient manner.
