POCSO Court Sentences Man to Five Years for Repeatedly Molesting Daughter

A special court under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act has handed down a five-year rigorous imprisonment sentence to a 44-year-old man for repeatedly outraging the modesty of his 15-year-old daughter.

V V Virkar, the special judge presiding over POCSO cases, also imposed a fine of Rs 7,000 on the accused, whose name was withheld to protect the identity of the victim. The court’s order, issued two days prior, was made available on Friday.

According to Special Prosecutor Rekha Hiwrale, the offenses occurred between July 2017 and January 2018. The victim testified that during her mother’s absence, the accused would inappropriately touch her and violate her modesty.

When the abuse became unbearable, the girl confided in her mother, leading to the registration of a case at the Uttan Sagari police station.

During the trial, the prosecution presented testimony from seven witnesses, including the victim and her mother.

The sentencing underscores the gravity of crimes against children and serves as a reminder of the importance of safeguarding their well-being and rights under the law.
