The Division Bench of the Punjab and Haryana High Court, comprising Justices Archana Puri and Harpreet Kaur Jeewan, has issued a directive to the Haryana Government to provide information on the status of the active forest fire in Panchkula’s Morni Hills, as well as the steps being taken to control it.
The directive came in response to a petition filed by Vaibhav Vats and Another, highlighting the ongoing forest fire in Morni Hills. The petitioners expressed concerns about the fire’s impact on human life, wildlife, and ecological balance.
Recognizing the significance of the matter, the Court issued a notice of motion.
The Additional Advocate General of Haryana, appearing via video conferencing, accepted the notice on behalf of the respondent-State. However, she stated that she had not received a copy of the petition.
The Court instructed the Learned State counsel to file a written response regarding the current status of the active forest fire and the steps initiated by the government to control it by June 11, 2024.
The matter is scheduled for further consideration after the submission of the government’s response.
