The Supreme Court of India has issued a notification stating that bail matters, transfer petitions, and miscellaneous matters falling under specific categories, namely Labour Matters (0101-0114), Service Matters (0601-0622), and Habeas Corpus matters (1300), will be listed for hearing throughout the upcoming Summer Break. These matters, including both new filings and old cases ready for listing, will be scheduled for hearings on all five days of the week, from Monday to Friday.
The notice emphasizes that this notification serves as sufficient notice, and no further intimation will be provided in this regard. However, it also allows for exceptions. Any member of the Bar or party-in-person who wishes to refrain from having their matter listed during the Summer Vacation due to unavoidable circumstances can do so by submitting a written request addressed to ‘The Registrar, Supreme Court of India’. The request must be submitted in the DEU Section Room No. FW 50, First Floor, Main Campus, by May 4, 2024, until 1:00 P.M.
This move by the Supreme Court aims to ensure timely and efficient adjudication of matters falling under these crucial categories, even during the vacation period. It reflects the court’s commitment to addressing pressing legal issues and delivering justice without delay, especially in matters concerning labour rights, service disputes, and habeas corpus petitions.
By listing these matters throughout the Summer Break, the Supreme Court demonstrates its dedication to upholding the principles of access to justice and the rule of law, providing litigants with an avenue for redressal during a period that might otherwise be considered non-operational for judicial proceedings.
