Swati Maliwal Issues Legal Warning to AAP Leaders Over Alleged Defamation

Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) Chief and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Rajya Sabha MP Swati Maliwal on Monday issued a stern warning to Delhi government ministers, accusing them of spreading defamatory lies about her. Maliwal threatened to take legal action against the ministers who claimed she was acting at the behest of the BJP due to a corruption case against her.

In a post on social media platform X, Maliwal refuted the allegations by AAP leaders that her assault complaint against Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s aide, Bibhav Kumar, was motivated by a corruption FIR registered against her. She clarified that the FIR, filed in 2016, is baseless and has not impeded her reappointments as DCW Chief by both the Chief Minister and the Lt Governor.

“The FIR was registered in 2016 and after that I was appointed the chief of the Delhi Commission for Women twice by both the chief minister and the Lt Governor. The case is completely fake and the Hon’ble High Court has imposed a stay for the last one-and-a-half years and has also accepted that there was no exchange of money,” Maliwal stated in her post.

Maliwal expressed frustration over being labeled a BJP agent after filing the complaint against Bibhav Kumar. She accused AAP leaders of mobilizing a “troll army” against her, attempting to tarnish her reputation and endanger her relatives by disseminating their personal details.

“All the members of the party are receiving calls saying if there is any personal video of Swati, send it. It has to be leaked. They are putting my relatives’ lives in danger by tweeting their details after procuring them using their vehicle registration numbers,” Maliwal asserted.

She warned that the truth would eventually prevail and cautioned her accusers about the repercussions of their actions. “Well, lies don’t last long. But in the intoxication of power and the obsession to bring someone down, it should not happen that when the truth comes out, you are not even able to look your family in the eye. I will take you to court for every lie you spread!” Maliwal declared.

Maliwal’s comments followed the arrest of Bibhav Kumar on Saturday, after she accused him of assaulting her on May 13 at the Chief Minister’s official residence. AAP leader Atishi claimed that Maliwal is facing charges in an illegal recruitment case and suggested that the BJP is blackmailing her to conspire against the Chief Minister.
